Plan-G / Connecting SimConnect to P3dv4 in Plan-G 3.2
« on: November 18, 2017, 10:07:45 AM »
The P3D SimConnect library uses a much more "traditional" approach to connections than the beta FSX library. Here's how to set it up.

1.Create a Simconnext.xml file on the P3D computer, in the folder C:\Users\(me)\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4

Paste in (or type) the following:

Quote
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>

<SimBase.Document Type="SimConnect" version="1,0">
  <Descr>SimConnect Server Configuration</Descr>
  <Filename>SimConnect.xml</Filename>
  <Disabled>False</Disabled>

<!-- Example Global (remote) IPv4 Server Configuration-->
  <SimConnect.Comm>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <Protocol>IPv4</Protocol>
    <Scope>global</Scope>
    <MaxClients>64</MaxClients>
    <Address>192.168.0.106</Address>
    <Port>4504</Port>
  </SimConnect.Comm>

</SimBase.Document>

Note the items in bold: "Address" is the IP address of your P3D PC. You can find it out by using the IPConfig command from a cmd prompt.
"Port" can be any free port number. You will need to remember it for the next step.

If you already have a Simconnect.xml and it's being used by some other addon, simply add a new entry to that file.

2. In your Plan-G program folder, create a Simconnect.cfg file.
Paste or type in the following:

Quote
[SimConnect]
Protocol=IPV4
Address=192.168.0.106
Port=4504
MaxReceiveSize=4096
DisableNagle=0

Note that the address and port numbers should be the same as those in the xml file.

Now, when you want to see your P3D aircraft in Plan-G, select "Simconnect (P3D) in the connect options, and click Connect.

If the connection should time out, check your application permissions (if P3D is running as Administrator, Plan-G must also run as Administrator), and make sure your firewall or antivirus is not blocking it.

Supplemental: You should set up your router to reserve an IP address for your P3D computer. This means that it will have the same address on your internal network every time you start it. If you just leave it to the default allocation, it could get different addresses each time, and you'll need to update both the xml and cfg files accordingly. Trust me, this is a pain in the butt.

Plan-G / Test version 3.2.0.143 * NEW 08/10/2017 *
« on: October 21, 2016, 11:20:44 AM »
* Please download 3.2.0.144 from the main web page. *

This is a public beta for 3.2. Please see the readme for changes. This is for Vista through Windows 10 only.

It is recommended that you install 3.2 to a different directory than 3.1.3 or 3.1.4 (you don't need to uninstall). Do backup your old folder, just in case. You do NOT need to delete the Plan-G Files folder or rebuild the nav database unless instructed.

Tip: If you have custom user waypoints, back up the Plan-G Files\UserWpts3.sdf file and copy it back after updating.

Rebuild the database for: P3dv4, X-Plane 11, Addon airfield indicators.

NOTE: This build requires DotNet v4.6.2. You can download it from http://www.microsoft.com/Net/Download.aspx It is not yet automatically detected by the installer,

Networked Documents folder. Plan-G has problems accessing its databases if they are on a network drive (including Cloud services). Please set a LOCAL Plan-G Files folder in Settings->General if your My Documents folder is networked.

Please report any issues with the beta to this thread. Thanks.

Build 143 (8th October 2017)
- Fixed ILS heading sometimes incorrect with X-Plane 11
- Fixed oversized kml icons
- Supports P3D scenery_add-ons.xml method of adding scenery
- Increased Max Database Size for localized X-Plane databases
- Added WMM2015 support for X-Plane 11 magvar.
- Export to Garmin GTN 650/750 format (experimental - untested). Save to [FSX]\F1GTN\FPL or [Prepar3D]\F1GTN\FPL
- Added indicator to show airports that are addon (edit AddonAirports_FSX.txt etc. file in data folder. One ICAO code per line)
- Added ability to relocate Plan-G Files folder
- Simconnect.cfg index setting for P3D Simconnect library (this is the index to the entry in the cfg that will be used for the connection. P3D does not use the FSX simconnect settings.)
- Added Support for v1100 X-Plane native data
- Fixed X-Plane data read threw errors with some multi-entry navaids
- Fixed various aerodrome window draw issues
- SetWindowTitleToPlanName=False in Settings will keep the main window title static (for 3rd party apps).
- Can now open multiple aerodrome chart windows
- Fixed some P3Dv4 taxiways were missing
- Fixed issues reading P3Dv4 runway data
- Fixed error during database build left the dialog open.
- Added LM Prepar3d managed Simconnect library
- DotNet dependency is now v4.6.2
- Added user defined map provider, for private servers etc.

Build 129 (1st July 2017)
- Adds support for Prepar3d v4
- Adds support for fsAerodata
- Adds OpenTopoMap provider
- Adds export support for FSW format flight plans (note: you need to save a dummy plan from inside FSW, which you will overwrite, in order to get around the idiotic DLC block)
- Various bug fixes (see readme for full changes list)

Frequently Needed Reminders:
- You do NOT need to rebuild the database just because you updated the software. You ONLY need rebuild the database if you change your scenery library, change your sim, or are instructed to do so.
- There is ONE P3D database. If you want data for an old version you still have installed, specify its Scenery.cfg in Build Options (e.g. C:\Program Data\Lockheed Martin\P3dv2)
- If you run Plan-G from a remote PC, install the program on the FS PC too. Build the database locally and copy it across.
- If you screw up and try building remotely, your original database might still be on the FS PC from before.
- Reporting this topic as spam is not a means of getting support.

Plan-G / IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: 3.1.3
« on: December 27, 2015, 10:50:42 PM »
Because of a disk failure, I'm no longer able to run Windows. In practical terms, this means I'm not able to do any work on Plan-G - no more bug fixes, no new features, until I can get it repaired. Don't worry, all the data and code is well backed up, so nothing is lost.

Windows runs in a partition on my work Mac (the dedicated FS PC I had died long ago), and the only way to fix it is to take down the whole system and rebuild it from scratch. Other options have been tried and failed. Because of my work commitments right now, this is not a viable option, at least in the short term. And Macs are sealed units these days, so simply bunging in a new drive isn't an option. Buying a new dedicated PC isn't an option either (financially speaking).

Consequently, the 3.1.3 beta is now the official front-page release build for Windows 7 and later. XP is still on 3.1.2, simply because I don't have an update build for it. Please be reassured, XP users: you may be few (less than 2%, based on number of downloads), but I haven't abandoned you. When I can do it, there will be an XP update.

Normal service will be resumed eventually.

Plan-G / 3.1.3 beta/test build - 113
« on: August 09, 2015, 03:27:01 PM »
* Mapbox V4 supported. You now need to specify a map ID (e.g."mapbox.streets", "mapbox.satellite" etc.) as well as the access key.
* NEW: Planned Altitude display puts a "T bar" in front of the aircraft, showing where it will reach the specified altitude. In level flight the system can show a T-Bar to the ground (or other altitude) at a ficed descent rate, for glide profiles or planning start of descent etc.
* Fixed Aircraft profile dialog did not include performance elements for turbine aircraft
* X-Plane airspace display (incomplete & still buggy)
* Fixed error if airport identifier longer than 6 characters (X-Plane)
* Added airspace altitude range for map display (e.g. only show airspace above 10000 ft)
* Airspace training areas now shown in dark blue
* Removed filename restrictions when scanning FSX/FS9/P3D bgls for database
* Added ability to move waypoints within the plan list using drag & drop (note: for multiselect, you must now hold down SHIFT. Multiple selections cannot be dragged.)
* Added Spanish localisation (incomplete). Thanks to Luis M. Lázaro Tauroni
* Fixed KML/KMZ icons did not show description text in popup
* "autoexport" temporary file now written if export filename dialog fails (rename/copy this BEFORE closing Plan-G or starting a new flight plan if you want to keep it)
* Adjustments to sync mode safe zone
* Fixed crash if plan has no endpoint due to overloading markers at extreme zoom with override on
* Fixed info panel Lat/Lon was not formatted according to preferences
* Waypoint Lat & Lon added to flight plan window
* Fixed some menus did not refresh on language change
* Fixed crash sometimes on deleting multiple waypoints from the front of a plan.
* Fixed KML failed to display if a marker image was null.
* Can now set ILS freq by right clicking on feather.

Please download from the main page.

Plan-G / Please Let me know what OS you use for Plan-G
« on: March 01, 2014, 08:46:22 AM »
Hi guys, what with Microsoft shutting down support for XP, I'd really appreciate it if you could help me out by answering the poll. The only way to support XP users ongoing is to keep two separate code bases, since the new frameworks won't run on XP. This means developing everything twice, which - at best - will slow things down.

So please answer the poll and tell me what OS *you* are using, so that I can get a feel for the scale of the problem. Thanks.
